Heritage Victoria

The Victorian Government announced its support for progressing World Heritage Listing for the Victorian Goldfields in 2022. The preparation of the Victorian Government submission is being led by Heritage Victoria.

Together with the fifteen councils across Victoria, Heritage Victoria are working to progress World Heritage Listing for the Victorian Goldfields. National and international experts are also advising on the bid.

In January 2025 the Victorian Goldfields were added to the Australia’s World Heritage Tentative List.

This achievement is the result of a partnership between fifteen councils, Traditional Owner groups, and the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.

The Victorian Goldfields must remain on Australia’s Tentative List for at least a year before being nominated for World Heritage Listing.
